According to the Canadian Register of Historic Places, Canada has nearly 12,000 heritage monuments. More than 5000 of these were recently photographed by the 395 participants in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 from Canada. The largest photo contest in the world saw participation from more than 15,000 people who uploaded more than 360,000 images.
The Canadian jury choose their top selections from a substantial array of photos. Wintry streets take center stage in the photo that took first place: lights of the Notre Dame de Bon Secours Chapel glimmering at the end of a frosty street in Montreal. Several of the finalistâs photos depict a number of Canadaâs bridges reflected in glassy water, showcasing the country’s beauty and majestic monuments.
