Kenya was another one of the countries around the world that participated in Wiki Loves Monuments for the first time in 2012. Kenyan particpants contributed a number of impressive photographs depicting the distinctive array of national monuments in the country.
The first place photo features a statue of Jomo Kenyatta, the countryâs first Prime Minister and the man many consider Kenya’s founding father. The second place photo portrays the Nation Center Publishing House in Nairobi, headquarters of the Nation Media Group, the largest private media house in East and Central Africa. Other finalists contributionâs commemorate the countryâs history, with two photos (one of which took third place) depicting monuments marking the 20th and 25th anniversaries of Kenyaâs independence.
