The photographers who took part in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 from Estonia were prolific. 75 people uploaded almost 2600 photos throughout September, adding their images to the more than 360,000 freely-licensed pictures contributed to the largest photo contest in the world. Organized by Wikipedia Estonia with the help of the National Heritage Board, the photos capture Estonia’s vast array of monuments located throughout its countryside villages and capital city, Tallinn.
First place prize went to a haunting black and white photo of Puurmani manor. Built between 1877 and 1881, the Neo-Renaissance style manor is now home to a school. Second and third place went to two of Estonia’s most majestic castles, Hermann Castle and Alatskivi Castle, respectively.
