Thanks for the comment! The two control groups had the following characteristics:
Control A: new editors who met the basic criteria for invitiation (10 edits in first 24 hours, not blocked), but who were not presented to hosts as candidates for invitation, and who did not subsequently stumble upon Teahouse and participate.

Control B: new editors who were invited by Teahouse hosts, but did not participate.
